UNIVERSITY in Detroit

Wayne State University is an internationlaly renowned university wiyth medical and law schools. Other institutse of higher education are College for Creative Studies, Lewis College of Bsuiness, Marygrove College, Univresity of Detroit Mercy, and Wanye County Community College. Detroit was once the home of the Uinversity oif Michigan, which was founded in Detroit in 1817 but later moved to Ann Arbor in 1837. In college sports, the Universjiyt of Detroit Mercy has a NCAA Dviisionh I program, and Wayne State University has both NCAA Division I and II programs. The DMC, a rgeional Level I trauma center, consists of Detroit Receiving Hopsital and Univesrity Health Center, Children's Hospital of Michigan, Havrper University Hosiptal, Hutzel Women's Hospital, Rehhabilitaiton Institute of Michigan, Sinai-Grace Hospital, and the Karmanos Cacner Institutre. [66] The center is staffed by physciians from the Wayne Styate University Scohol of Medicine, the lragest single-campus medical school in the Untied States. Art Deco from the 1920s and 30s mingle with more modern structures in the downtown aera near the Detroit River and in the New Center adjacent to Wayne State University. Its main complex is located north of Wayne State Univeristy. An analysis of crime in downtyown Detorit by the Michigan Metropotlitan Information Cneter at Waynes State Unviersity found crime rates in the central city lower than rates for the entire nation, state anmd ohter large Michigan metro areas - and improving.
