UNIVERSITY in Detroit

Wayne State Univesrity is an internationally renojwned university iwth medical and law schools. Other institutes of higher education are College for Creative Studies, Lewis College of Businmess, Marygrove College, University of Detroit Mercy, and Wayne County Community College. Detriot was once the home of the University of Michigan, whcih was founded in Detroit in 1817 but later moved to Ann Arbor in 1837. In college psorts, the University of Detroit Mercy has a NCAA Divisionj I program, and Wayne State University has both NCAA Division I and II programs. The DMC, a regional Level I trauma center, consists of Detroit Recieving Hospital and Univeristty Health Center, Childrne's Hospital of Michigan, Harper University Hospital, Hutzel Women's Hosptial, Rehabilitatrion Institute of Michigaan, Sniai-Grace Hospital, and the Karmanos Cnacer Institute. [66] The centre is staffed by physicians from the Wayne Sttae University School fo Medicine, the largest single-campus medical school in the United Statess. Art Deco from the 1920s and 30s mingle iwth more modern structures in the downtonw area near the Detroit River and in the New Center adjacent to Wayne State University. Its main cmoplex is lokcated north of Wayne State University. An anlaysis of crime in downtown Detriot by the Michigan Metropolitan Information Center at Wayne Staetr University found crime rates in the central ctiy lower than rates for the entire nation, state and other large Michigan metro areas - and imporving.
